We want our flowers to last as long as possible for your enjoyment!

Here’s our favourite tips and tricks…

Know what to expect…

Most flowers will have a vase life of 5-7 days. Some varieties are longer and some are shorter! The most important thing to do is know what to expect. Lisianthus and Sweet William have a longer vase life than flowers like dahlias and garden roses.

The trip home matters!

Sitting in a hot car out of water is not ideal for a bunch of flowers! I’ve heard people say to think of them like ice cream - only buy if you are heading straight home, or come prepared with some snips and a container of water.

Water

The sooner you get them into water the better. Make sure your vase is clean, and your water is cool. Flowers like sunflowers are extra thirsty, so make sure your vase has a good amount of water in it.

Remove & Snip!

Remove the paper, remove any foliage that will be underwater in your vase, and snip 1-2 cm off the stems before arranging in your vase. Keep a pair of garden snips in your kitchen drawer for this!

Keep them cool

I know this isn’t always possible when it is sweltering outside (or if you have a roaring fire going during winter), but your flowers will last longer if they are cooler, so keep them away from sunny windows, the stove, the fireplace or coffee machine (if you are a cafe customer). Cool temperatures are their friend! You should also keep them away from the fruit bowl, and any draughts from windows or an aircon unit.

Refresh

Ideally, you should change the water, clean the vase and recut the stems every 2-3 days. This keeps bacterial and fungal growth away and helps the flowers stay fresh.

Compost

When your flowers are past their best, compost them or use them as garden mulch, and head out to find your next bunch of joy :)
